Wild News Wednesday - Thanksgiving Edition! 11/27/2019

If you can believe it, we are quickly approaching the end of November already! For those of you taking a few days off to relax, eat good food, and enjoy great company, I wish you the happiest of holidays. For anyone that will be working through this crazy weekend — thank you so much for your hard work in keeping the world turning! You’ve got this!

No matter which way your weekend goes, it is always the perfect time to scope out some new story ideas — check out this week’s #WildNewsWednesday to see if anything sparks that next great novel.

The Many Copies of You

Whether your fandom leans towards Doctor Who, Fringe, Stargate, or any other popular sci fi show, they most likely have an episode or storyline that deals in parallel universes and the many copies of you. Well now scientists are saying, due to the law of probability, it could be more real than we know. I don’t know if the world could handle multiples of me, but I’m so excited to find out.

Honorable mentions go out to Orphan Black and What Happened to Monday, which deal with multiples but not in parallel universes.

Accidental Text Love

One accidental text from a grandmother to a young man who was not her grandson has now become Thanksgiving legend, and is one of my favorite holiday stories. Not only because it was so pure, but because they kept the tradition going! People can be so fabulous sometimes. What accidental texts could you add to your current WIP that might add a bit of happy or mischief into the mix?

Wedding Ring Reunion

Anyone who wears rings — wedding or otherwise — lives in constant fear of the dreaded empty hand. But one lucky man was able to be happily reunited with his ring with the help of a couple of enterprising hikers. The story didn’t give many details, just explaining that Bill had been wearing said ring for three years. So, of course, my brain went into overdrive with the whys and hows of his backstory.

Switched at Birth

The idea of nature versus nurture is fascinating to me, so I’m always intrigued by switched at birth stories. There is so much potential for conflict and beauty, wrapped up in one glorious complex package. It sounds almost too crazy to be real life, but Kim Mays was switched at birth and the (possible) accident was only discovered due to the other daughter needing surgery at age 9. Fair warning, this is not entirely a happy tale, but fascinating nonetheless.

Big Falls with Epic Survivals

You pretty much have to bribe me to do any sort of exercise, so you can imagine extreme sports are a bit outside my realm. Reading about Emily Harrinton’s miraculous survival after falling off of one of Yosemite’s massive vertical climbs only solidifies why, but good on her and I’m glad she’s doing well! Need a strong, brave heroine? Emily sounds awesome, and I’ll bet it is only a matter of time until she is back at it.

Me doing any sort of athletic activity:

Also, with my brain on the holiday weekend, I googled “fall meme” and received the below. Ask and ye shall receive. We’re going to take this as accidental motivation. #brainfall #FALLnotfall

The Perils of Newscasting

Newscasting can be a dangerous profession, especially when they are sent out into the field. But it is never so perilous, or so hilarious, as when animals get involved. Check out BBC’s video of this newscaster attempting to give his update while avoiding a very persistent pig. I need this pig in a story, stat. Maybe a guard pig?
